AUSTRALIAN CHRISTIAN ART PRIZE
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
ELIGIBILITY CRITERA
1. The Prize is Open to all works of art that address Christian themes. These include any portrayals of scenes from the life of Christ, the Bible or the lives of the saints; Christian spirituality; Christian values and life; and God’s creation and promises to humanity.
2. The competition is open to all forms of 2D and 3D artwork including, but not limited to, all paint mediums, drawings, digital works, works on paper, sculpture and installation. Giclee reproductions of original artworks are excluded.
3. Artworks depicting offensive themes will not be included in the final selection of artworks.
4. The entry must be the original work of the artist.
5. As this Prize celebrates humanity’s relationship with God, any artworks entirely or substantially generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be ineligible for entry.
6. After 2025, entries which have previously been entered in this Prize will be ineligible for entry again.
7. There is no limit to the number of entries an artist may submit. Multiple entries can be entered at the relevant entry fee per artwork.
8. Entry fees are $55 per work in the Open Category and $25 per entry in the Student Category.
9. Entries must be submitted via online entry only. Entrants will be asked for the artists’ details:
Artist name, artwork title, size, medium and price
State the Category of entry
If the artist is represented by a gallery, the name of the gallery.
A 50-word statement about the work
A JPEG image of the work (files should not exceed 4MB).
A non-refundable fee (incl GST) must also be paid online at the time of entry.
10. Entries must be received by 11.59pm Sunday 22nd June, 2025.
11. Entry fees are non-refundable.
SIZE
12. The size of the 2D work must not exceed 183cm in height or 300cm in width, not including frame (which must be of a narrow width). Hanging entries may not exceed 15kg per panel. The size of 3D works must not exceed 100cm in height, width or depth.
13. Multi-panel pieces are accepted and regarded as one work but must not exceed 300cm in total width. Clear instructions must be provided for installation if selected.
JUDGING AND EXHIBITION CRITERIA
14. Shortlisting of entries will take place in June 2025 by a judging panel appointed by the organisers.
15. Judging is based on three equally evaluated criteria of: successful interpretation of the theme, originality, and technical proficiency.
16. The judging panel will select between 50 and 70 finalists.
17. The finalist exhibition is intended to display the wide variety of mediums available to contemporary artists and the organisers reserve the right to curate the finalists’ exhibition.
18. Finalists will be notified by 11th July, 2025.
19. All selected artworks must be installation ready when they arrive at the gallery with ‘D’ rings and hanging wire. This includes works on paper as no artworks will be pinned to walls. A stretched canvas is considered framed. Wet paintings will not be accepted.
20. Entries must be clearly labelled on the back with:
• Artist’s name
• Address
• Phone number
• Title of work
• Year of completion
• Medium
• Price
21. Artworks selected as finalists will be exhibited in the Hanly Room at the Archdiocesan Offices from 18th to 25th July, 2025
22. Finalists' artworks may be selected for an extended travelling exhibition. Finalists will be notified by 11th July, 2025 of their selection.
23. Reasonable care will be taken by the organisers in handling the artwork however the organisers will not be responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever caused to any work while in its custody.
24. Works may not be withdrawn during the exhibition under any circumstances.
SALES
25. All entries must be for sale and the organisers will retain a 40% commission in the event of the work being sold.
26. The price cannot be changed once the entry form is submitted and remains fixed for the duration of the Exhibition.
27. Where the artist specifies they are represented by a gallery, the commission set out in clause 25 will be shared equally by the organisers with that gallery.
28. Payments to artists will be processed as soon as the client has collected the work, or within 40 days of the exhibition closing date, whichever is sooner.
FREIGHT
29. Artists selected as finalists will be responsible for the cost of freighting artworks to and from the exhibition venue.
30. Unsold works must be collected within one week of the exhibition’s conclusion.
31. All original packing materials will be retained where possible, with unsold artworks repacked the same way as they were delivered.
32. Insurance for the artwork in transit remains the responsibility of the artist.
33. Any works not collected within the specified time will be stored at Banyo Nundah Catholic Parish Centre, 136 Buckland Road, Nundah. If no arrangements are made within one month after this period, the work will become the property of the organisers and may be sold or otherwise disposed of at the gallery’s discretion.
SALON DES REFUSÉS
34. All artworks submitted to the main competition and not selected for the physical exhibition are eligible for inclusion in the Salon des Refusés.
35. Artists may opt out of the Salon des Refusés through the prize entry form.
36. Only works that meet the competition’s original criteria will be considered. Artists will be notified in their work is selected for the Salon des Refusés.
37. The Salon des Refusés will be an online only exhibition hosted on the Prize’s website from 18th to 25th July, 2025.
38. All selected artworks must be available for sale throughout the duration of the online exhibition.
39. The Gallery will facilitate all sales of artworks featured in the Salon des Refusés.
40. In the event of a sale, the artist is responsible for packaging and shipping the work to the organisers.
OPEN CATEGORY PRIZE
41. The judges of the Australian Christian Art Prize will select the artwork of one finalist to be awarded the Open Category non-acquisitive prize of $10,000, and the artwork of one eligible finalist to be awarded the non-acquisitive Student Category Prize of $5,000. Both prizes will be announced at the official opening of the finalist exhibition on 18th July, 2025.
42. Highly Commended awards may be selected by our sponsors.
STUDENT CATEGORY PRIZE
43. The Student Category Prize is open to Senior Secondary Students only, i.e. students attending the last two years of their relevant high school programme.
44. Students may be required provide proof of enrolment at the time of entry or before judging.
DECISIONS
45. The judges’ decision will be final, and no negotiation will be entered.
FINAL
46. No employee or member of the Parish Pastoral Council or Parish Finance Council (nor any spouse or child thereof), of the Banyo-Nundah Parish of the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane shall be eligible to enter the Prize.
47. By entering, the artist consents to images of their work being reproduced and their biographical information used for the purposes of advertising and publicising the exhibition and for catalogue production.

43. The winning work of the $10,000 prize will be acquired by the organisers once prize money has been paid.
